Internet problems!
Well, still no pics! Our internet has been cut off and the office is closed. I hope they are not on holiday for all of August, like so many here. We are at the library in Guardiagrele and I am not able to send the pics from my laptop from here.
It is impossible to walk down the street here without a 9-16 year old girl yelling "Ciao Zoe" and taking her away with them! She is the popular foreign girl and they all love to practice their English on her. She is doing well with Italian as well.
Most of our work is done on the house for now so we have some spare time. We are having builders come to look at it this week to get a quote for plastering and restoring the brick ceilings on the main floor over the winter. They have a system for getting the dampness out and sealing up the stone so no scorpions can enter. All good!
It is really hot here now. Today is already 42 degrees and it's not noon yet. We sat in the sea yesterday, no need to move or get out as the water was almost as warm as the air.
I am starting to hold my own with the neighbours, speaking a little Italian--enough to make a simple point or answer a simple question, so that is progress. I have hope for the future.
The big Mostra arts demonstration and show\sale is on in Guardiagrele now. The local artisans compete in ironwork competitions and jewelers and ceramic artists are here too. It is really interesting. Yesterday there was a strange go-kart race down the length of the sloping mountain village, some in bathtubs with wheels. They have just removed the buffering hay bales from the piazza and are already putting up lights everywhere for the Saint's Day Procession! Live bands 3 nights a week...and they are good. There is never a dull moment!
Missing everyone and getting ready to come home in just over a week.
